I'm often asked how I do that ruffled edge I like to use on some of my scrap pages, and was asked if I could do a little video tutorial on how to curl up the edges. So here is a quick little snippet to help you all have a better idea on how I do this (just click on the title below to be taken to the video)....

I'm starting off with the Limited Edition Kit this month from My Creative Scrapbook. This kit just blew my mind when I first opened it up. It was crazy packed with so many gorgeous blooms (fabric, paper & crochetted!!), and not one crystal flourish, nope, not two .....but FOUR gorgeous black crystal flourishes, which went a long way in making up many many pages for this kit! And wait till you see the papers!!! I thought they were pretty when I first saw them online at the GCD Studios site, but in real life they are soooo glittery and beautiful!! My photography simply does not capture the beautiful shimmer of the papers and note-cards in this kit! Here are some close-up pic's of the above l/o....
Here is another l/o I made using this beautiful kit! The large butterfly is part of one of the patterned papers and all the black is flocking giving the l/o wonderful texture! .....And if you like butterflies, this kit is for you! There is a full sheet of patterned paper made up of glossy butterfly images (which I cut out and attached to the page by folding up the wings)....but there are even more, a big sticker sheet of butterflies too!) This is a photo I took of Meagan a little while back when she was learning to rollerblade in our back lane-way, I think she spent more time picking the wild flowers at the sides than she did rollerblading! ........
There were so many pretty and unique accent pieces in this kit, among them these cute, cute brads with butterflies and blooms on them. Here are a couple close-up pic's showing some of the unique kit items....
This is a 3rd l/o I made with the Limited Edition Kit. By adding some pink cardstock I changed up the kit colours a bit. I used a very cool brocade design transparency sheet (included in the kit) to make the circular design on this page. I attached it with 2 sided sticky tape under the photo and used a black pearly 3D paint dotting the edge. This creates a nice design/texture on the page and also serves to adhere the transparency piece better. The flowers on this l/o were handmade. The smaller ones were punched out of pink cardstock and then painted with some pearly pink paint and edged with glitter glue (Stickles).
TIP: The larger bloom was made by using this technique from the MCS Tips & Techniques forum More Cardstock Cabbage Roses except I used a coffee filter that I lightly tinted with some watercolour paint (I used the pattern from the above tutorial) and a rough cut circle piece of light pink cardstock. Just lightly twist the length of cut coffee filter and glue to your cardstock piece. You'll get a very flat but fluffy looking cabbage rose (especially good for you ladies who are worried about too much bulk in your albums!) Here is a closeup picture of the finished blooms.....
And here is a 4rth l/o I made using the LE kit. For this l/o I used one of the fine print green floral papers in the kit and then created a polka-dot patterned paper with some white cardstock and green chalk ink. I cut out a circle from a piece of craft foam and stuck it onto the end of a wooden dowel to make a homemade stamp. I stamped dots in a diamond shape pattern to make the leftside of the page.
The white and green flower on this page was made using the satin ribbons included in this kit. I used the Kanzashi Bloom technique I posted a little while back in the MCS Tutorials forum (the rounded petal technique, but I layered it). Here is a close-up picture.....
Okay, so that was the LE kit (plenty more stash in this kit to make much much more!)......Moving on to the Main kit for January. The Design Team girls had such a blast playing with these papers! You'll have to be sure to take a look at all the work done by them in the January DT Gallery! Here is the first l/o I made up using this fun earthy kit!......
There is a full tube of colourful Prima blooms in this kit. I used a bunch of the creamy yellow colour blooms to make up the 'branch' of blooms crossing the l/o (the branches were cut from dark brown cardstock using my Revolution die-cutter). The photo is another one I had taken of Meagan when we were out on a little late fall walk. Here are a couple of close-up pic's of some fo the kit goodies.....
Here is a 2nd l/o I made using the Main kit (I already shared this l/o yesterday along with a tutorial on making the faux polished stone.....see posting below) or check-out my posted tutorial at MCS .... Faux Polished Stones
As always Pam has packed unique and pretty embellishments for these kits! There is a full notecard of black gemstones and these gorgeous Prima Blooms in such wonderful fabric textures, (velvety soft and rough and shimmery!) In this l/o I used the black gemstones to create a circle design....
One of the bloom packages in this kit are so velvety and pretty with these vintage looking centers made from metal and rhinestones......
And finally a 3rd kit I worked on this month was the Creative kit. If you've got winter/snow pic's to scrap, this is the kit for you! Here is a l/o I made using the pretty kit papers and embellies (I used one of the BoBunny Snowy Serenade die cut papers as a template to make up this page) The picture is one I took of Steve on a walk with the girls....
A 2nd l/o I made with this kit I went with the Pinks/reds in the papers. The photo is one of my little niece caught crawling across the hood of her dads vintage car. Included in the kit there are some green poinsetta blooms that I cut up to make the leaves for my branch design.
TIP: I made the 'lollipop' blooms by layering some rough cut circles of patterned paper and pressing the rounded handle of my scissors into the centers to get a cup shape. Secured it with a brad in the center and added some puffy paint to the edges to mimic snow (I used Tulip Puffy Paint, just squeeze it on and apply a heat gun to make it puff up) Here are some close-up pics.....
And a 3rd l/o I made for the Creative kit is this one about my youngest daughter and the goofy things she says. We were talking about how much we love egg-nog and did we remember the first time we tasted it. I told them about how when I was a little girl I didn't care for milk, and we were visiting some close family friends and at the dinner table they poured me a glass of egg-nog. I thought it was milk and first refused to drink it, but when I tasted it I told my mom it was the best milk I ever had! Meagan turned to me and said......'Well, I had just dyed my hair blond and was sitting on the beach eating pooka shells' .......Chloe and I just look at each other and start giggling, I just don't know where she gets her crazy stories!
To make this design I handcut a heart shape from one of the patterned papers, inked the edges, mounted it on another light blue patterned paper and cut it close to the edge. I added some glitter to the thin edge peeking out. Then I machine stitched the heart design to the page using a zig-zag stitch (NOTE: secure the shape to the page using some 2 sided sticky tape in the middle of the heart, do not use adhesive on the outside edges as this could gum up your sewing machine)
The small rosettes were made from the patterned paper using a 6 petal flower punch, a tutorial I've shown in the MCS Tips & Techniques recently Punch Rose TutorialI have to give credit for this idea to Maria (Megalicious's blog 'Imagine, Create, Inspire)
If you made it this far down, thanks for having a peek at my newest work! I know this was a long one!! If you'd like to see more inspiration on this months kits along with some awesome work done with the Album Kit, be sure to check out the Design Team Gallery for January at My Creative Scrapbook!
Thanks!
