Video Tutorial: Steampunk Style Glasses Case {Bo Bunny}

Hi everyone!  A little while back someone suggested on one of my posts that I should do a steampunk style phone cover.  I thought it would be a fun idea but then wasn't sure how well that would hold up with the beating it would take in my purse and pockets! lol!   So I thought I would instead, do a Steampunk style eye-glass case using a variety of Bo Bunny's gorgeous mixed media products and one of my favorite wood embellishment collections called Ironworks.  I have an eye-glasses case that I keep on my night table so I thought I could give that a nice make over :)

Have you tried these beautiful new lasercut chippies by Bo Bunny?  I was lucky enough to get my hands on this stunning butterfly chippie, they have such intricate cut-work, love them! So I decided to make this, and a lovely scroll from the Ironworks wood accents collection the centerpiece of my OTP (of the page) project.  I thought it would be nice to make a video tutorial up to show how this thing went together.... so grab a cup of coffee (or tea) click on the arrow below and enjoy!

I just love the way the Pearlescents adhere so well to almost any surface, I didn't even have to pre-coat my piece with Gesso!  Here are a couple of views of this project from other angles...

This is the backside of the glasses case, you can see the nice texture I got using the Cascade Stickable Stencil with a combination of  Licorice, Graphite and Chocolate Perlescents streaked across it.

I finished my design with some Bo Bunny Trinkets and Mocha Jewels. 

A view of the left side.  I also added some little hits of the Bronze Glitter Paste to the wings o the butterfly and on the metal flowers.  This project came together quick and easy and now I have a pretty eye-glass case to keep on my night table.

VIDEO TUTORIAL: Mixed Media Steampunk Style Keepsake Box {Bo Bunny}

Hi all! I've got another fun little project to share with you today, and I made a video tutorial to show step by step how I made it!  I had picked up a variety of plain craft boxes at my local dollar store and decided it was high time I decorated one of them up.  My other trinket boxes are overflowing and I needed another pretty box to store my crafting goodies.

I used a variety of the new Bo Bunny Mixed Media products to make up this Vintage/Steampunk style box.  I began by doing a little stenciling with Bo Bunny's Stickable Stencils (Brocade stencil)...I used the script stencil and the honeycomb stencil with my homemade texture paste. Then I painted the whole thing with Gesso, added my embellishments and began spritzing with 3 of BoBunny's new Glimmer Sprays (Gold, Bronze and Frost (Blue)....I added some accents with their new Pearlescents as well (Brilliant Blue and Chocolate).  At the end I added some dabs of Glitter Paste in Gold to the tips of the petals and a few of the trinkets. I hope you enjoyed watching my tutorial as much as I enjoyed making it!  Bo Bunny makes so many fun products and I'm happy they've added mixed media products to the mix!  Here are a few more pic's of the project so you can see from other angles....

Some of the things I like to keep in my 'keepsake' boxes are odds and ends I find lying around the house...pop can tabs, old keys, buttons, broken bits of knick knacks and trinkets....(I have so many trinkets left over from older Bo Bunny collections.  I put them in this box to use for projects like this).

I love that Bo Bunny now makes their Gem/Jewel packets by color,they are called Double Dot Jewels.  I used some of their Aqua and Mocha jewels to decorate my treasure box.  This is a design idea I had first seen on a project by one of my fabulous friends on the Bo Bunny Design team Ilene Tell.  She had embedded her jewels into some texture paste on one of her projects and I just loved the look!

Another thing I love about all the new Bo Bunny mixed media products is the way the color change, almost chameleon-like as you change the view of the box!

I liked the way that the Gold Glitter Paste added another element of texture and shimmer to the tips of the petals and some of the trinkets. It looks white and creamy when you apply it, but after a few minutes of dry time it becomes sheer and super glittery!

Dusty Attic ATC Challenge ~ September is Steam Punk!!

So this month the theme for the Dusty Attic ATC challenge is 'Steam Punk'!  I had so much fun with this challenge...I love the rich colors and cool designs in steampunk projects!  For those of you who are not familiar with ATC's, it stands for 'Artist Trading Cards'.  They are basically little 3.5 x 2.5 inch cards that are little representations of an artists style.  Each month Dusty Attic has a challenge going with a theme, at the end of the month a winner is picked and is sent a nice little Dusty Attic prize.

 

For my ATC I use some Bo Bunny Double double dot paper in the color 'Ocean' (I used the plain side of the cardstock rather than the dot side).  I also used the new Bo Bunny dragonfly stamp from the Serenade collection on a piece of the cardstock, cut it out and then tried this technique I saw on Youtube, a burnt glue technique that makes your piece look like forged metal.  All you do is put a coat of white glue (I used Aleene's) on the design and scorch it over an open flame (candle).  It will look black and sooty, then you just give it a rub with a paper towel and it becomes burnished like metal.  Here is the YouTube video I watched on this Forged Metal look using Glue.

 

I have to say mine did not turn out as well, and I slightly singed one of the wings but it made the wings nice and strong and by adding a little copper 3D paint (Scribbles T-shirt paint), I think I ended up with a nice piece to use on my steampunk ATC.

 

The chipboard I used on this is the Mini Cogs for ATC's, and I cut the corners off of the smaller frame from the Baroque Frame Set -Square for the outside of the design.
