Take a Hike {Maja Design, MLYB, Tresors De Luxe, Cheery Lynn Design}

Chloe, my oldest daughter goes on these little hikes with her friends and comes back with these wonderful  photos, gorgeous views, breath-taking waterfalls....who knew we had such beautiful areas to hike in so close by!   For this page I wanted to use a lot of natural elements....so I used a color combination of soft pink and natural browns.  I used papers from the Maja Design paper collection called "Antligen"...

The chicken wire pieces are of course from Dusty Attic Designs (you can find online stores that sell Dusty Attic products in the rightside panel of my blog).

For the natural elements on the page I used a bunch of embellishments from the My Little Yellow Bicycle 'Naturals' collection.... I love these embellishments, they seem to compliment any paper collection I use!

NEW!! Bo Bunny's 'The Avenues' {A Pinspiration Based Page}

 

I have just been itching to get my hands on the NEW Bo Bunny collection called 'The Avenues'!!  I have always had this passion for weathered paint on  wood, beautiful shabby doorways and windows, aged shutters.  I even have a board on Pinterest where I collect images of weather doorways!  So I was so happy when I was asked to do a post for the 'Pinspiration' blog post at Bo Bunny.  I was asked to choose an image from Pinterest and use it as inpiration for my layout.  I chose the above image of some aged wood trims! I love the beautiful soft color combination of warm cream, gentle sage and pale aqua.  Here is the page I made as inspiration from the above image (using The Avenue's collection).... 

My oldest daughter has been helping out this summer doing some work for her dad (he has a landscaping company)...along with doing the mowing etc. she has also been learning about gardening, about plants, soil, potting and planting.  She just loves learning from her dad and working outdoors.

 

Before I began my layout I took a few minutes to to a little cutting on some of the wonderful patterned papers.  There is a page full of old vintage clocks, and another with weathered doorways and yet another with weathered shutters (LOVE!).  I precut all the images on these sheets and put them in a little baggie, so I have them all at my fingertips when putting my layouts together.

 

In this photo you can see how I layered some of my cut images around my photo (clock, window/door designs). I also did a little bit of inking behind my images first. (I used VersaMagic, Pretty Pastels chalk ink, green, aqua)....and then stamped with the Bo Bunny "It Is Written" background stamp.  I also did a bit of masking with the Crafters Workshop brick stencil and some home-made texture paste (recipe can be found in my right side panel of my blog under 'tutorials').

I also did a little more stamping with the Bo Bunny "Geometric Patterns" background stamp.  Another thing I like to do when making up a page is to look at the designs found in the patterned paper.  I love that there was washi tape design in the top left corner of the patterned paper. I had some washi tape in my stash that has a similar look so I added bits and pieces here and there to mirror the design in the paper.  You can see some of it below the photo of my daughter and over the frame...the cute polariod frame is from Dusty Attic :)   Here is a list of the products I used on this page....

If you are a person that love putting fussy cut elements onto your layouts, you are just going to love the new Websters Pages 'Postcards From Paris II' collection!  One of my favourite papers from this collection is the one with the french vintage lables!  I cut out the pretty bouquet lable and used it as a floral embellishment on the left side of the frame (above).  I also cut out some of the butterflies and clocks to embellish the page as well.

If you love butterflies on your pages, then you will love this paper from the PFP II collection!  Basically a contact sheet full of pretty butterfly designs to add to your projects!

 

While I had my papers and embellishments out from the PFP II collection, I thought I would make up a quick friendship card.  As I mentioned before, I just love the cute french vintage label paper in the collection, so I cut out one of the perfume labels as the center piece to my card.

I used one of the fun new paper clip embellishments to 'crown' my card.  The butterfly and crown paperclips are the matching embellishments to the PFP II collection.

 

To finish the page I used a couple of embellishments I had in my stash from Websters Pages....

I used one little piece of the green 'Bloomers' fabric trim as a rose for my card, the butterfly charm from the winter CHA collections, some gold trim from another websters pages collection and a few of the green/purple charm gems, also from the winter CHA.   The chipboard cloe and the twine is from the PFP II collection.

A Pretty Place for Your Trinkets! {Maja Design}

One of my all-time favorite color combinations is smokey plums with dusty greys.  So when I was looking to dress up my box to keep trinkets in, I was immediately drawn to the papers in the Crea Diem collection from Maja Design, lots of lovely vintage greys and smokey plum/pinks.

What is one of the most frustrating things when you are making up an altered box like this one? It's what do you do at the corners!  Some tuck them under other layers of papers, some try to just have them but up against each other, but after looking at the Crea Diem papers I noticed that they have this lovely smokey, vintage edging.  I thought I'd take this edging idea and use it on my box design, keeping the paper application really simple!

I began by using my black ink pad and rubbing it along the edges of the box.  (the box I got very inexpensively from my local craft shop).

I then cut a square of one of the grey patterned papers in Crea Diem (Efter regn-bs).  I made the cut just slightly smaller than the full edge to edge of the box top.  Softly ink the cut edges so they match the inking on the outer edges of the patterned paper.  I used Aleene's white glue adhesive to apply the paper panels. (Make sure you bring the adhesive right out to the edges.

 

What I found was really cool was that the cute little strips that you cut off from the bottom of the patterned papers? .....They are the PERFECT fit for the edge of the box top edges!  Continue to apply the rest of your panels to the box, adding decorative detailing with other patterned papers, lace and some flourishy rub-ons. I used pieces of the Crea Diem pinkish/plum paper called Fylid av Karlek-bs to insert into little tears I made in some of the panels (this should be done before you adhere the panel). 

To decorate the top I just clustered together some loose flowers I had leftover in my stash from some past kits and painted up a Dusty Attic floral chipboard piece (Floral Corners) and gave it a coat of crackle medium.  Voila! You now have a pretty trinket box, easy-peasy!  I hope you'll give it a try!

A NEW Mixed Media Tutorial Video! {Featuring Dusty Attic & Tresors De Luxe Lace!}

Hi Everyone!  Today I'm so excited to share with you a video on a new mixed media canvas I made using lots of my Dusty Attic Chipboard, some gorgeous Tresors De Luxe laces (I love the way the intricate laces bring up texture on the canvas design!) and lots of just odds and ends from around my house!  I will admit I do not have a lot of mists etc. in my stash so you will see that I used some mists mixed with simple acrylic paints and even a small mister filled with some steeped black tea (a tip from Finn) that I used to give the canvas a vintage look.  Here are some closer looks (Scroll down to view the video).

 

I made the bloom in the corner from some simple satin ribbon!  I will share another tutorial on this in the future.  It's also fun to used household things like bottle caps, loose beads, bits of brass from old jeans and of course little bits of  Dusty Attic chipboard.

 

 I used some stencils and texture paste to create more texture relief on the background of the canvas.  I find the busier you make the embellishments and texture, the better the finished design turns out.

You can really use any color of embellishment when doing one of these style canvas's (blooms can be a color you  have in your stash that you never use!) because you end up covering it all with gesso.

Here I used one of my favorite Dusty Attic Scrolls (Scroll #1) and I layered cheesecloth underneath for extra texture.  I tried to show all the steps in the video without making it crazy long (it's about 20 minutes).....I edited out adding some of the embellies because I think you can only watch me for so long gluing on all the nic-nacs.  So grab yourself a cup of tea (or coffee) and relax and hopefully enjoy my little tutorial! :)

Dusty Attic August ATC! {Medieval)

Hi Everyone! Today I'd like to share my ATC for the August ATC challenge with you all!  I'm always excited to find out what the next month's challenge will be, and this month it's a fun challenge for sure!  For the 'Medieval' theme I used the outside frame from the ATC Gothic Windows, one of the Shields, and a whole bunch of pieces from the 'Coat of Arms Add On #2' package of chippies (I used one of the castles, a crown, the wing span and one of the lions heads).

Every coat of arms should have a motto and I could only think of one motto that I would like to represent me and that would be the word 'Create'.  I used some texture paste and the Crafters Workshop Script mask on the frame.  I used 3D metal paint on other areas of the chips (castle mortar, and framing the crest).

Postcards From Paris II {NEW Websters Pages}

Here is another page I made with the gorgeous NEW Webster's Pages 'Postcards From Paris II' collection!  I went with the soft aqua colors in the collection this time.  Again I did a little masking work with a stencil I found by Heidi Swapp and some home made texture paste (recipe is in the rigt side column of my blog).

I didn't have my coordinating emellishments for this collection yet so I went with some embellishments from some of the past collections (I find they all inter-mingle so well).  I used the fabric trims from Everyday Poetry and Royal Christmas and the Princess Petals bloom.  I also used a few of the beautiful cameo's Websters Pages is famous for!

The swirly chiboard piece is from Dusty Attic and I liberally embellished the page with those cute yelow/white butterflies that to me just scream Websters Pages!  (you can find a contact sheet printout that I made up for these butterflies in my right side column under tutorials)

 

This beautiful collection should be coming to stores near you soon!  If you missed out on the first time the Postcards from Paris collection came out, you won't want to miss out on it this time!  Looking forward to seeing what you all create with this one! xo
