A Layout with New 'Nest Collection' {Webster's Pages}

I know, it's been a while since I did a layout with Webster's Pages.  But yesterday I got a lovely packet in the mail with the NEW 'Nest' collection by Websters Pages.  I love this picture of my little great-niece, the way the sun is sparkling off her hair (Thanks Danielle for letting me use her pics).

I just love the nature elements in this collection, nests, feathers, eggs, birdies,....not to mention all the beautiful floral elements we've come to love about Websters Pages papers....

I went with more of a mixed media style layout for this one.   I used the newsprint design paper in the collection called Newsworthy, behind my photo area and did a little splattering and texture work layered onto the design.

I used one of the Tim Holtz Distress paint daubers in "Tumbled Glass" and "Victorian Velvet" with some 'Antique Linen".  I put some waterdrops on my craft sheet and dabbed the tip of my paint dauber in it so the paint thinned down a bit in the tip.  Then I just smacked down on the page to get the spatter effect.

I cut out one of the egg images and mounted it on some burlap, then I fussy cut some of the cute feather images from the 'Tickled' paper and had them dangling from the corner design.

I added a small embellishment cluster in the corner, using a resin frame from Websters Pages and one of their bird/nest resins.  I also got these fun sequin circles a while back from the Websters collection of embellishments, I thought they'd add a playful element to echo the sweet dots in my lil niece's dress.  I mounted the whole design on the 'wood grain' design paper called 'Home with You' to finish the look.

Happy Memories {Dusty Attic and Websters Pages}

 

I found this old photo of our dear Mocha (she passed a few years ago), she was a super sweet dog, fiercely protective but did not have a lot of tolerance for children's shinanigans (did I actually use that word? lol!) ....If there were too many kiddies running around like at this summer resort, she would quickly tuck herself under your legs to hide (not the best of things when wearing a skirt!!)  Well, I tried to come up with a good title for this one but my husband finally came up with 'Leg Warmers' which I thought was a good fit :)

 

To make this page I used some papers from Websters Pages 'Postcards from Paris II' and 'A Christmas Story' collection.  I embellished with some new goodies from Dusty Attic designs.  Above you can see the Cyclone Wire fence chippies (I like to cut them up in little bits to use on my pages).

 

 

Another new chipboard design that Dusty Attic just put out is the 'Chevrons' in a variety of sizes.  For mine I first gave them a coat of Gesso, then added a coat of 'Oceania' Dusty in Color Paint and used a white Gel Pen (Signo Unibal) to put some dots on the design.  I finished it by adding a nice thick coat of Dusty Attic Gloss medium.

 

Here is another view of the chippies and floral embellishments.  I first gave the base of the page my own unique background design by starting with a basic soft brocade paper.  I then added some inking on the borders with some Tim Holtz Broken China Distress Ink applied with a make-up sponge.  I used a Crafters Workshop 6x6 Circle Grid Stencil/Mask and black ink applied with sponge in corners and edges fading in as I go...I dabbed a little of the Broken China with the black ink.  I used a make-up sponge to apply the Broken China ink around the area of my photo/embellishments as well.

 

I also used another couple of stencils on this page with texture paste.  The 6x6 Crafters Workshop 'Ledger' stencil and the Tim Holtz "Measured" stencil (under the photo area).  One of my favourite chippies from Dusty Attic has always been the Vintage Hinges, well now I'm so excited because they have come out with the 'Mini Hinges' as well!  I love them!  Although I used them for a layout here, I can totally see me using them in cards, ATC's and OTP's (of the page projects!).  I dabbed on some copper 3D T-shirt paint and some more of the 'Oceania' Dusty in Color paint to get the above effect.

CardMaker & Webster's Pages Blog Hop {With Prize!}

For my card above I went with the pretty aqua's and greens in the Family Traditions paper collection.  For embellishing I used some natural elements like burlap and twine as well as a Websters Pages cameo, bloomers, and fabric trims.

 

Here is another card I made from the same paper collection.  I love the cheery colors and design in these papers, just perfect for cardmaking!

 

For this card I layered a number of the patterned papers in the Family Traditions collection and again matched one of the lovely Websters Pages cameos to it.  I finished the design with some fussy cut leaves and blooms from one of the patterned papers as well as some soft pink Bloomers (rose fabric trim).

It's May! {And Websters Pages is All About Blooms!}

Yep, I've been complaining about how long it's taken to warm up this year but not anymore!!  We hit 20 degree's (Celsius) and that makes me happy!!  Today I wanted to scrap Spring! And whats more springlike that soft and pretty pastel little dresses!  I wanted to use lots of blooms on this page so I played with a bunch of my Webster's pages Modern Romance papers.  I began by fussy cutting lots of the beautiful floral images from the Modern Romance patterned papers.  Then I used my Spellbinders 'Rose Creations' die cuts to cut some layers of the patterned paper to make my handmade blossoms.  I used the 3 largest die cuts for the big blooms, and 3 medium for the mid size blooms.... 

I chose colors in the greys and pinks to go with the color of the dresses in the photo.  I then inked the edges of the papers with some grey chalk ink (I used Michaels store brand Studio G grey chalk in for this)  The center is a stamen bunch that I got at a local dollar store. 

To get the cupped effect on the blooms I gave the flower layers a light spritz of some water and then just pushed each petal with my thumb into the palm of my hand.  Then simply glue the layers together.  The chipboard I used on this page is of course Dusty Attic.  I used a portion of my favourite vine chippie, painted it white and used green chalk in to softly tint it. (the corner brackets are the smaller square frame from the Sweet Pea Frame Sets cut in half).

 

I made the lace edged circle design using the Martha Stewart 'Swirling Lace' corner punch....I shared a tutorial last year on how I made this lacy circle, if you would like to see how I made it you can find the tutorial HERE.

One of the questions I am often asked is how I make the little scallop edge I sometimes put around the outside of my photos.  Super easy to do.  Just matt your photo on some cardstock as you always do (glueing it down).  Now trim around the edge with a scallop edge scissor (very inexpensive scissor you can buy at your local craft store).  I then take a good white gel pen like Inksenntials or Signo Unibal and put a white dot in the center of each scallop. It only takes a minute to do but makes a big difference in your finished page :)

In the Mood for Spring {With Websters Pages 'Modern Romance'!}

I've pretty much had enough of winter now and want to just look to Spring.  And what better collection to do this with but Webster's Pages Modern Romance!  I love all the fresh and pretty florals in this collection.  For this page I did a whole lotta fussy cutting from one of my favourite papers from this collection, the one with all the floral tags (below)...

I basically just cut out a few of the blooms and used them as an embellishment by popping them out from behind the photo, giving them a little more 3D effect by using pop dots behind them.

  

For  the bottom corner I embellished using one of the NEW Websters Pages Perfect accents frames (it was a bright yellow, but I wanted something lighter so I just painted it white, I combined it with one of the older WP cameos.  The swirly chipboard is from Dusty Attic.

 

The photo is one of my great-niece Jade, doing a little coloring.  The photo put a smile on my face, so I wanted the layout to be more light-hearted, so I called it 'creative' giving the definition for creative being 'coloring outside the lines' lol!



Using Washi Tape with NEW Websters Pages *Modern Romance*!

I often like to randomly ink the areas behind my photos when making a layout so I thought it would be a fun idea to try using Websters Pages new Washi-tape in torn strips to create a similar effect.  The cool thing about the particular tape I used here is that it has a pattern that can be lined up as you go!  Here are a few close-ups of the page...

I used one of the digi journaling boxes to make the above frame for my text.  Yep, I'm gonna get all braggy again here :)   I took this photo of Chloe a few months back on her first day of High School (gone are the days when you would dress them up in their finest for the first day of school....now it's shorts and casual wear lol!)......But I was so proud a few days ago when Chloe brought home her first semester report card, she got a 94%  grade point average for all her classes! Including French, English, Math and Art)  I couldn't be more proud! 

Do you like the blooms?  I was so happy to find them in the $1.50 bin at Michaels!!  4 blooms to a package!  I was so thrilled with this find!  And the colors where just right for the WP papers!   Thanks for stopping by today....and I hope you'll be back tomorrow, I've been busilly working on a new canvas tutorial!!  

Websters Pages *Composition and Color**

This cute collections called Composition & Color came out a few months back as a mid-season release meant mainly for the more 'Clean & Simple' style scrappers but I just fell in love with that cute cute pastel chalks paper and the lovely woodgrain design as well.  So I just had to make a layout using these papers.  I also wanted to play a bit with the new Washi Tapes as well.  For this page I thought I'd try using it for making part of my title...

I kept the design more rough looking since I was doing the word 'Art' ...I wanted to give it a kind of homespun look.  A quick and unique way to do a title right? 

I just added a few embellishments (Websters Pages Princess Petals, Bloomers and Designer Trims (kitchen twine) and cut out a couple of the chalk pastels as accents to finish the design).  The photo is one of my little great nieces getting into painting.  I'm so happy to see that they enjoy crafting and painting as well!  Come back tomorrow to see how I used Websters Pages Washi Tape with their Modern Romance collection!  Thanks so much for stopping by again! xo 

Websters Pages Beautiful 'New Beginnings!"

Have you seen the new release at this past CHA for Websters Pages called "New Beginnings"? It's such a beautiful fresh looking collection! I love the mini-print bloom papers and all the fresh Spring colors!

The photo I scrapped is an older one of my youngest daughter dancing around the backyard (in her nightie no less) with a home-made ribbon on a pencil!  She was so free spirited, no care for who's watching....oh to be 7 again! lol!   I was going to share how I made the twine circle frame with some photos but I accidently erased the pic's from my camera before I had a chance to move them over to my computer! (Along with loads of recent pic's of the kids and their friends that I'd meant to move to the computer!...so frustrating!) But I can give a brief explanation.  I layed out my circle cut photo under a piece of plastic wrap (this helps in gaging how big to make the twine circle).  I then took some kitchen twine and wrapped it a few times in a circle framing my photo and leaving enough twine to tie a bow.  I then took a small paper cup and poured a little bit of Gesso into it.  I took the cut piece of twine and dunked it in the Gesso and then layed it on the plastic wrap over the photo so that it nicely framed the pic, tying a bow in the two ends.  Leave to dry.  When it's dry it will become rigid and easy to glue to your layout!



I used a few Dusty Attic Chipboard pieces as well to accent this page (Sweetpea Border, Mini Scrolls #2)...I decided to keep the Sweetpea border natural because I liked the soft brown with the pinks....I also used some of their new paint collections as well! Making a Gift for Family...

A little while back my nephew sent me a whole bunch of beautiful engagement photos of him and his beautiful fiance (now, just recently, his wife!)....I just now had a little time to start putting together some layouts with them.  I plan on doing a few of them and framing them as a gift for them.  For this layout I used some of my all time favourite chipboard pieces from Dusty Attic, the Baroque Frame - Square, the Hinges and the Sentiment words (Love)....and of course the perfect papers for this photo was from the 'In Love' collection from Websters Pages!  The quote I used here I thought so perfectly reflected the photo, it says

"There is only one thing I want to change about you" he said, "Your last name"

Each month the Websters Pages design team gals are asked to do a project that is inspired by the Guest designer for the month, and this months guest designer is Jennifer Gallacher, she has a beautiful clean style of scrapping (a bit different from mine lol!) but I really loved this cute handmade embellishment she added to her page, it was a folded pin-wheel design (You can find Jen's layout at the Websters Pages Inspire Me site), so I used that as my inspiration to create the folded fabric blooms on this page (above).  I shared a tutorial a little while back on how to make these folded blooms, if you want to check it out you can find it HERE.

While I was working away at some layouts I just couldn't resist playing with some of the NEWEST Dusty Attic chipboard pieces!  There is a new collection of Bamboo designs in the May/June release, as well as a cute new Flourish #8 and a new Hanging Sign #2 (I also used some of my favourite Chicken Wire Panel chippies and the Grass Cluster #1 chipboard pieces.......

The photo's I scrapped here were some I took a few years ago of my youngest daughter Meagan playing mini-golf, this little one plays by her own set of rules, it's almost always her turn, she can take as many shots as she wants (but they always add up to '1'), and I just had to giggle at her form!  ....The papers I used for this page are from the Websters Pages 'Game On' collection, I thought these playful papers would make the perfect backdrop for these photos.  Here are a few close-ups....
